Make a plan:
Before a new employee starts their new job, you will need to make a deadline training plan for them. The plan will involve deadlines of when certain training needs to be completed and a time-frame of when the individual will feel comfortable to do certain job responsibilities. Depending on what their new job is you need to list all of their job responsibilities and every time a task is completed and they feel comfortable you can just tick the task and sign it off.
A pro for having a structured training plan is that you can use it numerous times for members of staff! You just need to change it depending on what department or job they have gone into.
Set goals:When setting goals you need to make sure that your staff are comfortable and able to achieve the goals that are set. The goals need to be realistic and achievable. By setting goals this will help your staff learn something new, become productive, work as a team and gain confidence. Just check in everyday or weekly to see how they progressing.
Monthly training sessions:
If you find that you are having to repeat yourself in the training process or a member of staff needs extra mentoring then maybe it’s time for you or a senior employee to hold monthly training sessions. These training sessions are extremely helpful for all staff members. It’s also a chance for new starters and the team to discuss what they are struggling with and what they need help with the most.
Use employees as trainers:
If the role you have filled is to replace a staff member then you will need to discuss the training plan and process with them so they can help train a new starter to go into their position. The employee will then train the new starter to their best ability and will teach them everything they know. This is always a better method of training as the new starter will get the best training possible which will help them to develop into their new role.
Hands on training:
Everyone learns differently, whether they prefer to be shown or prefer to have a go, either way both methods seem to work! For example at Busy Bee Recruitment we have a week of showing new starters what we do and then the next few days are hands on days. The hands on days are for new starters to have a go on their own and then ask when they need help. We find that this method works most effectively.
