We are seeking an experienced and technically driven Senior Electrical Controls Engineer to join a modern Development Engineering department, working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team. Job Duties:

‍

•  Design electrical systems for bespoke, special-purpose scientific equipment.

•  Produce detailed electrical power distribution and control system diagrams suitable for manufacture.

•  Generate accurate Bills of Materials to support electrical designs.

•  Develop, plan and specify electronic systems, sub-systems and components.

•  Work across control, drive and sensor technology, pneumatic controls, PLCs and safety systems.

•  Develop and test new control technologies for highly technical scientific equipment.

•  Contribute to cross-functional engineering development and continuous improvement projects.

•  Support production teams with technical issues arising during manufacture.

•  Support essential engineering design changes and product improvements.

•  Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant machinery legislation, directives and engineering standards.

•  Work within established engineering, quality and Health & Safety procedures.

•  Liaise with wider engineering teams to ensure electrical and controls solutions meet technical and operational requirements.

•  Provide technical input throughout the development and manufacturing lifecycle.

What we are looking for:

‍

•  Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent qualification/experience; minimum HNC with relevant industry experience.

•  Strong knowledge of PLC control systems.

•  Knowledge of industrial fieldbus systems including DeviceNet and EtherCAT.

•  Experience designing drive systems, pneumatic controls and automation technology.

•  Experience controlling electro-pneumatic and mechanical systems.

•  Knowledge of 3-phase power distribution and heater control systems.

•  Practical understanding of relevant machinery legislation, directives and standards.

•  Experience using E-Plan is highly desirable.

•  Previous experience working with ERP systems such as SAP would be advantageous.

•  Strong problem-solving skills with an accurate and thorough approach to engineering design.

•  Proactive, confident and able to communicate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

•  Professional registration with a relevant engineering body would be advantageous.

•  Willingness to undertake occasional travel to Germany, customer sites and external laboratories.
