Busy Bee Recruitment are delighted to be working with a prestigious Cambridge-based institution to recruit a Gardener. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected organisation and play a key role in the care, presentation, and ongoing development of its beautiful gardens and grounds.

Working closely with the Head Gardener, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing a historic Cambridge estate, with a particular focus on horticultural excellence, plant care, propagation, seasonal displays, and landscape presentation. This hands-on role combines traditional gardening skills with modern grounds maintenance practices, ensuring the estate remains an attractive and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors alike.

Job Duties:

• Maintaining planted areas, gardens, beds, borders, and landscaped grounds to a high horticultural and presentation standard.

• Carrying out planting, pruning, watering, mulching, weed control, deadheading, and general plant maintenance across the estate.

• Monitoring plant health, soil conditions, pests, diseases, and irrigation requirements, taking appropriate corrective action when required.

• Performing grounds maintenance duties including lawn mowing, edging, leaf clearance, scarification, aeration, and seasonal lawn renovations.

• Operating and maintaining a range of horticultural machinery, equipment, tools, vehicles, and specialist grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively.

• Supporting landscaping projects, seasonal planting displays, College events, ceremonies, and the overall presentation of the estate.

• Working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, students, and visitors whilst adhering to health and safety procedures, sustainable horticultural practices, and College standards.

What we are looking for:

• Somebody who brings a responsible and proactive attitude towards health and safety.

• Valid driving licence appropriate.

• Strong horticulture and gardening background.

• Strong communication skills with staff and colleagues.

• Physically able to carry out the role, including walking across multiple sites and working outdoors.
