Are you a Controls Design Engineer with PLC and HMI programming experience looking to work on the development of advanced industrial machinery and control systems?
We are recruiting for an established engineering manufacturer in Haverhill who is looking to strengthen their Engineering team with an experienced Controls Design Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of controls projects from initial design and programming through to testing, fault finding, implementation and continuous improvement.
You will be working across both new and existing machinery, developing reliable electrical control systems and intuitive operator interfaces while helping the business continue to advance its automation technology.
This would suit a technically driven engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, developing software and seeing their work implemented on physical machinery.

• Designing and developing reliable electrical control systems for industrial machinery and equipment.
• Developing intuitive and user-friendly HMI interfaces for machine operators.
• Programming, developing and maintaining PLC, HMI and associated control software.
• Programming using Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram and Structured Text.
• Supporting the development and improvement of existing machine control systems.
• Producing and maintaining technical documentation including electrical schematics, assembly drawings, Bills of Materials and wiring diagrams.
• Designing and carrying out functional testing, reliability testing and user trials.
• Fault finding and diagnosing electrical and controls-related issues on machinery.
• Investigating engineering change requests and implementing appropriate improvements.
• Supporting the continuous improvement of machine reliability, performance and durability.
• Ensuring electrical and controls designs meet relevant UK and international compliance requirements.
• Providing controls and electrical engineering support to the wider engineering and manufacturing teams
• Degree qualified within Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics or another relevant engineering discipline.
• Strong PLC programming experience within industrial machinery or automated equipment.
• Confident programming using Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram and/or Structured Text.
• HMI programming and development experience.
• Practical experience fault finding electrical and control systems on machinery.
• Experience using SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN Pro Panel or AutoCAD Electrical would be advantageous.
• Understanding of electrical and machinery legislation, British Standards and relevant European/international standards would be beneficial.
• Understanding of Design for Assembly and Design for Serviceability principles.
• Experience gathering, manipulating or analysing machine data would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to check and validate your own work.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with mechanical, electrical and manufacturing teams.
